It is no hidden secret that regular exercise plays an important role in one's physical and mental health. However, for a lot of people exercise is the first thing to go when their schedule starts to get busy or when they become stressed. Despite the excuses, living an active lifestyle has many benefits to offer, from stronger muscles and bones, to better mood, deeper sleep, and less stress. We know it can be difficult to figure out what exercise to do each day or how to fit it into your schedule, so we are here to give you some tips on how you can get in some sort of physical activity in your day-to-day life.

Join Group Fitness

If you are the type of person who likes to set a schedule and stick to it, why not join in on some group fitness classes. These classes are usually at set times each day which means you can book in in advance and attend on your way to or from work! There are classes to cater for the many interests and needs of people; everybody is welcome! Being a part of a group fitness class allows you to engage with others, and to feed off their energy for the workout. This is particularly great on days where you’re feeling flat or unmotivated.

Join a social sport team

This is a great way to get in some activity during the week. There are so many social sports on offer such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, netball, and more. Why not gather some friends and join the next round of social sport? This is bound to boost your endorphins and potentially get you out of your comfort zone. The great thing about social sports is that it is in fact ‘social’, so there is no need to stress over your sporting abilities, just get out there and have some fun.

Catch up with friends

The next time you plan to meet with friends for a catch up, why not suggest you go for a walk rather than just to breakfast or lunch? Going for a walk is a great way to get some fresh air and get the heart rate up, all whilst talking no-stop with your friends. This can be as simple as a stroll around the local park or waterfront, or you can even take it up a notch and head to your nearest National Park for a hike.

Travel strategically

Next time you head to the shops or to work etc., park further away from the entrance. This will allow you to get in some extra walking time, contributing to your overall daily activity. Another great tip is to take the stairs where possible rather than opting for the lift or escalator.

As you can see, there are plenty of alternative ways to get in some physical activity throughout the week. The link between physical activity and overall health is undeniable so it is great to get active where you can. It doesn’t have to be the same old slog of going to the gym by yourself, try something new and make it fun!
